What Would You Do If You Won 100,000 USD in the Lottery?

I just won 100,000 USD. In my head, at least. I am going to spend it all on myself! What would you do with 100,000 USD? Most would pay off credit cards, but credit card debt is unsecured and therefore uncollectible if you die, so I suggest that the most useful thing to do with the money is something that will insure your future security.

Why is being financially secure so important? Because it frees us to live more productive lives, for one thing, especially as we get older. Knowing that our last several decades will hold all types of surprises for us, makes it all the more important that we plan rationally.

A Rolex watch won't buy us much but a way to track time; good healthcare, a safe vehicle, a 401K, home equity and a decent insurance policy will actually buy us time. Providing we are lucid enough not to wander in front of a bus.

No amount of time on Earth can free us from that bogeyman stress, but even a windfall of $100,000 would go a long way to making the Average Joe peaceful at heart. How great it would be to start a $10,000 college fund for each of the grandchildren.

How about taking some of that money to visit those dear friends and family members who have been just out of reach for so many years? Treat the gang to a weekend of good food and good accomodations and a lifetime of warm memories.

You get the idea. If (when) you get that financial windfall, whether large or small, honor it. How you spend it, even if it is to take care of yourself, can be a long term gift to those you love.

Enjoy your money. It's coming any day now!
