Is Bush's base eroding?
At the risk of having right wing zealots burn a cyber-cross on my blog posting, I'd like to relate the meat of a conversation I just had with some of the people who work with me, i.e., my boss.
In election 2000, all ten of the people who work in our small corporation, along with 80% of our clientele, voted for George Bush. Big donations from our business go to Focus on the Family and everyone tithes big time. I, and my son, who also works here, would be the exceptions. I never would have believed such a thing could happen, but as this election approaches, I see their support for Bush crumbling. My boss tells me he's been reading Molly Ivens!! just to get perspective on the Ann Coulterish viewpoint. And how my boss used to love listening to Rush…but not anymore. In fact no one around here listens to Rush anymore. This change in thinking didn't come about from my influence - I long since gave up even mentioning politics around the office.
For the first time this cadre of staunch Republicans openly chat against George Bush. I don't know whether they'll vote for Kerry, and I'm not advocating that they should, but my guess is that Bush's base is eroding big time.
The issue?? Iraq. As I heard it explained, government policies can't make an individual get an abortion and they can't make you leave your spouse to marry a gay person, but those policies CAN put a gun in the hands of your sons and daughters and make them kill for oil. NOT ONE of the Republicans here, not even the TBN faithfuls, believes Iraq is about liberation. The way I see it, George Bush has finally become a uniter, not a divider, but I don't imagine he knew he would be uniting the people against him rather than for him.
I thought I would share this information because I had no idea that these stalwart Republicans were wavering and I am personally amazed!! Bless their little hearts.

Your comments are interesting. Today I read some amazing things that Pat Robertson told Paula Zahn. Did Bush really tell him that there would be no casualties in Iraq? This may become a big story.
